Turkey Detains 14 in Investigation of Ski Resort Hotel Fire

The investigation highlights the accountability of the hotel management, emergency services, and the administration of Bolu, the provincial capital responsible for the ski resort.

According to Anadolu, the owner of the luxury hotel and his son-in-law were arrested on Friday. Additional arrests included the deputy mayor of Bolu, the deputy fire chief, the hotel’s head chef, an electrician, and an architect, as reported by Turkish media.

Survivors and experts who arrived at the scene of the tragedy pointed out the lack of essential safety measures, including a proper alarm system, smoke detectors, automatic sprinklers, secure staircases, and adequate access routes for firefighters.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya disclosed that 238 guests, most of them families with children, were staying at the hotel when the fire broke out in the middle of the night during the winter school holiday season. The investigation highlights the accountability of the hotel management, emergency services, and the administration of Bolu, the provincial capital responsible for the ski resort.
